Steelers at Bengals -3.5, 47.5
Cincy completed a sweep of a three-game road swing by narrowly escaping in Tampa on Sunday and has won and covered five of its last six games. Pittsburgh’s inconsistencies continued with a home loss to New Orleans, and the Steelers have failed to cover three straight spreads. The line for this AFC North showdown moved from Cincy -4 to -3.5 at the Westgate on Sunday night.
Colts -3.5, 50.5 at Browns
After beating its second straight inferior opponent at home, Indy gets back on the road, where it’s 4-1 against the number on the season. In Cleveland, there will surely be conversations this week regarding the Browns’ QB situation, as Brian Hoyer was replaced by Johnny Manziel in Sunday’s loss in Atlanta.
Texans -3.5, 42 and Jaguars
Jacksonville got its second win of the season Sunday against the Giants. For what it’s worth, next up is a team the Jags beat both times last season and have covered against three times in a row. Most shops opened Houston -4.

The Giants face their second straight bottom-of-the-barrel AFC South opponent, after losing straight-up as field-goal favorites in Jacksonville on Sunday. The line here swung from Giants -1 to Titans -1 in early wagering at The Wynn.

The -9 the Westgate originally hung was pushed to -9.5 after about a half-hour of wagering on Sunday night, while William Hill was dealing Saints -10. New Orleans snapped a three-game losing streak with a win at Pitt, while Carolina sunk further into the abyss by getting blown out in Minnesota.

BEREA, Ohio – Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer says his confidence has not been shaken and believes he should keep his starting job over rookie Johnny Manziel.
Hoyer was replaced by Manziel in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 26-10 loss to Buffalo after throwing two interceptions.
Following the game, Cleveland coach Mike Pettine left open the possibility that he would start Manziel this week against the Indianapolis Colts.
Hoyer, who has played poorly in three straight games, said Monday that he’s “going about it as I’m the starter. For me, nothing has changed.”
Hoyer pointed out that he’s led the Browns to seven wins and the club is in the thick of the AFC playoff race. “You don’t get to 7-5 in the NFL by lucking into it,” he said.
Manziel led the Browns on a touchdown drive in his most significant playing time this season.

The 7-0 Wildcats garnered all but three of the 65 first-place votes cast from a nationwide media panel for a second consecutive week.
Wisconsin was atop the other three ballots and retained the No. 2 position with 1,511 points, 23 more than Arizona and 36 ahead of fourth-ranked Duke.

Louisville, Texas, Virginia, Wichita State and Gonzaga all moved up one place to occupy slots No. 5 through 9, with Villanova climbing from 12th to 10th. Texas, coming off a one-point victory at Connecticut on Sunday, visits Kentucky Friday in the headliner of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
Kansas remained in 11th, while North Carolina slipped from fifth to 12th after being upset by previously unranked Butler in last week’s Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The Tar Heels are followed by San Diego State, Ohio State, Miami- Florida, West Virginia, Michigan, Arkansas, Michigan State and Iowa State in the Top 20.
Iowa State also fell seven spots after falling to Maryland in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, a result that lifted the Terrapins into the poll at No. 21. Arkansas was this week’s biggest riser, vaulting from 25th to 18th.
Maryland is one of five new entrants that round out the Top 25, with Oklahoma, Butler, Illinois and Utah also making the latest rankings. VCU, Florida, UCLA, Creighton and defending national champion Connecticut all dropped out.
In other matchups of note for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, Louisville will host Ohio State and Illinois visits Miami Tuesday, while Virginia travels to former ACC member Maryland on Wednesday.
BALTIMORE – With an emotional victory over a playoff contender on the road, the San Diego Chargers padded their confidence and created some separation in the AFC wild-card race.
The object now for the Chargers is to ride the momentum all the way into the postseason.
Down by 10 points with just over six minutes to go, San Diego rallied behind Philip Rivers to beat the Baltimore Ravens 34-33 on Sunday and extend its winning streak to three games.
“This win means a lot to us,” said wide receiver Kennan Allen, who had 11 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. “We hope we can just keep going and run the table.”
The Chargers (8-4) moved a game ahead of Baltimore (7-5) in the wild-card hunt and earned the tie-breaker edge if the teams finish even.
But San Diego has a very tough December: home games against New England and Denver followed by trips to San Francisco and Kansas City
“We’ve got two tough home games coming up and we need to get rolling,” said former Ravens linebacker Jarret Johnson, who enjoyed a sweet return to Baltimore.
The Ravens, meanwhile, must rebound from a painful loss if they are to return to the playoffs after last year’s 8-8 disappointment.
“We’re in a little bit of a tougher spot,” wide receiver Torrey Smith said, “but at the end of the day all we can work on is what we can control.”
Some things we learned about the Chargers and Ravens:
RED ALERT: Baltimore had to settle for field goals four of the seven times it got inside the San Diego 20, including a late fourth-quarter drive that stalled at the 13 with just over two minutes left.
The ensuing field goal gave Rivers enough time to mount an 80-yard drive that concluded with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Royal with 38 seconds remaining.
“You’ve just got to execute,” Ravens running back Justin Forsett said. “We pride ourselves on finishing, and we didn’t finish what we needed to.”
Smith said, “It was the difference in the game. We wouldn’t have had to worry about them scoring at the end if we had scored more touchdowns.”
CENTER OF ATTENTION: If there was an unsung hero in the Chargers’ victory, it was center Trevor Robinson, the Notre Dame product claimed off the Bengals practice squad in early October when injuries decimated San Diego’s interior offensive line.
Robinson subbed when starting center Chris Watt limped off with a calf injury early in the third quarter.
Adjusting on the fly to a new center is nothing new to Rivers. The Chargers had already lost three centers — Nick Hardwick, Doug Legursky and Rich Ohrnberger — to season-ending injuries.
But the newly configured line performed nearly flawlessly during the pivotal fourth quarter.
“Trevor stepped in big,” Rivers said. “Fifth center. More centers than losses, so that’s pretty crazy.”
NO TIMEOUTS? NO PROBLEM: Rivers got the ball on his own 20-yard line with 2:22 left in the fourth quarter, no timeouts remaining and the Ravens ahead 33-27. If there was any panic in the huddle, it wasn’t evident.
Two quick passes to Allen moved San Diego 26 yards before the two-minute warning, and Rivers employed a no-huddle offense to keep the pressure on Baltimore.
“We were thinking we had to score, we don’t have any more timeouts,” said wide receiver Malcom Floyd, who made a key 8-yard reception on third-and-3 to extend the decisive drive. “Philip was calling the right plays, and we just had to move fast. I don’t think they were ready for our no-huddle offense. We saw they were a little winded and we tried to take advantage of that.”

“When you’ve got so many talented guys who can do so many different things (and) you’ve got a great quarterback, he’s going to take what the defense gives him, regardless of what play is called,” coach Mike McCoy said.

LONDON – Caterham has been given dispensation to compete in next year’s Formula One with the 2024 car as the team’s administrator talks to three potential buyers.
The World Motor Sport Council this week needs to ratify the car decision made by the F1 commission to help the team, which is in bankruptcy protection.
Team administrator Finbarr O’Connell says “the F1 Commission and FIA agreed if it would assist the weaker teams they can use the 2024 car next year, so giving them more time and options.”
Discussing the huge costs required to run a team, O’Connell says that makes it “very difficult” to secure a deal.
But O’Connell added that he is talking with “two very strong candidates, and a third less strong.”
